Sally-Anne Friedland Dance Company presents its newest work, "Human Nitrate" at the Maholohet dance festival in the Suzanne Dellal Center for Dance, Tel-Aviv on Thursday 23rd August at 9 PM.
In this raw and unusual piece of contemporary dance the audience is transported through two contrasting worlds by two separate pieces of 50 minutes altogether, performed by three incredibly talented dancers.
"Foot-hand-mouth dis-ease" is a shocking and troubling piece . It conveys a desperate desire for comfort in a place of constant uneasiness and tension.
"Venus in Fur" has a completely contrasting sense of energy. It is about funk and fashion. Its key theme is that in our civilization clothing becomes our armor, and from this point the work evolves and finds its direction. The dancers have a great measure of freedom here, they make their own spontaneous choices, using tools and rules created during the process of work, and this puts the performance on the edge.
This piece was inspired by the sculpture installation “Venus of the Rags” by Michelangelo Pistoletto, at the Tate Modern in London. See video clips of both sections at the Sally Anne Dance Company Facebook page or on Youtube.
